Flexible program

Our CST program is available in a range of formats to suit individual needs:

  • In-person groups (up to 10 participants) in Brisbane
  • Virtual small groups (up to 5 participants)
  • 1:1 sessions in Brisbane or virtual on Zoom

Benefits of CST

Our Cognitive Stimulation Therapy program:

  • Supports thinking and communication
  • Builds confidence
  • Encourages social connection
  • Supports emotional wellbeing
  • May help maintain thinking skills and slow cognitive decline

The CST program is led by Leah Keating and Lyndal Harris, both trained CST Facilitators and Dementia Doulas dedicated to fostering dignity, connection, and person-centred support. Dementia Wellness was born from our combined personal and professional experiences in assisting individuals living with dementia and their families.

After a diagnosis, many people find themselves without a clear pathway, often feeling uncertain about what to expect next. Our approach, grounded in evidence-based Cognitive Stimulation Therapy and supportive programs, aims to keep people living with dementia engaged, connected, and well-supported as they navigate their journey.

We design our programs to enhance confidence, foster connection, and improve quality of life for those living with dementia, while also providing support for their caregivers.

What is CST?

Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST) is a structured group program designed to support thinking skills, confidence and social connection suitable for people living with mild to moderate dementia and mild cognitive impairment. Sessions include conversation, activities and shared experiences in a relaxed, enjoyable and fun environment.

L

Who is CST for?

Participants take part in the program independently and are grouped with others of a similar ability, helping everyone feel comfortable and supported.

This program may suit people who:

  • are living with mild to moderate dementia or mild cognitive impairment
  • are comfortable participating independently in a group
  • enjoy small group settings
  • would like gentle stimulation and social connection
  • would feel reassured being with others of a similar ability.

L

How can CST help?

Research suggests that CST can be just as effective as medication in supporting thinking and everyday functioning for people living with dementia.

Studies indicate that people who participate in CST often show improvements in areas such as memory, communication, confidence and engagement, while also benefiting from social connection and enjoyment.

L

What does the program include?

The CST program includes:

  • 14 x 1-hour sessions (either weekly or twice weekly)
  • A welcoming, non-clinical environment
  • Conversations on topics such as childhood, music, food, etc.
  • Activities such as word games, music and gentle mental stimulation
  • A consistent group to support familiarity and connection so relationships can be formed, enabling individuals to share experiences with people who have similar abilities.

L

Can carers attend?

Sessions are designed for participants to attend independently.

Carers and support people do not attend the group sessions.

We choose welcoming, accessible venues where carers are able to remain nearby if they wish.

L

What does it cost?

CST is an evidence-based program designed to support cognitive function, confidence and connection for people living with dementia, and many families find it a valuable and meaningful investment.

Our CST programs are currently offered on a private-fee basis, with costs varying depending on format and location. As a guide, the current fee for a full in-person CST program is approximately $995 per participant.

Virtual programs will be offered at lower price points.

We are also actively working with providers and organisations to make programs accessible through funding pathways such as Support at Home, NDIS and community funding where possible.
